Space Ships 43 sec movie - 160x120 - ships.avi -
[2.9Mb]

- This alien ship is part of a fleet which invades Earth
Defense territory in a piece from my demo reel. At
present, the ships leave their own solar system, jump
into hyperspace, emerge above Earth, where a space
station launches fighers to counter-attack. The fighters
take a few shots at the ship, but that's where the scene
ends for now. The scene will continue with one of these
invaders getting destroyed, but not before it can launch
its escape pod (centre hub.) The music that accompanies
the .AVI file is from the soundtrack of the Henson movie,
Labyrinth.
- I created the ship using a lot of boolean
operations. I used tesselated balls, stretched in
negative Y for the main shell-like body. For the neck, I
used a box with a number of segments, and did a straight
bevel on all polygons. The neat glowing panels and engine
use the underwater texture supplied with Lightwave
3.0. In a moving picture, the waves on the engine panel
radiate toward the back, and can be sped up as the ship
accelerates using surface morphing.
- Being the kind of guy who likes to use what's given him, I used the DreadHull
specularity map supplied with Lightwave 3.0 for specularity, diffuse,
and bump maps on the surface of the ship.
