- I wanted to create a submarine to play around with Lightwave's fog effects
(ala seaQuest DSV) so I drew this one up on paper, then modeled it in Modeler.
I then placed the sub above a seabed and rendered it.
- I used a sphere and did several boolean
subtractions to create the protective shell that
surrounds the bathysphere-like bubble. I used booleans
to create the rear compartment, which was designed to be
removable. Basically, the cab is a self-operating unit,
and it can attach any cargo payload it needs to haul.
- The propellor housings are simply lathed ovals. They are
independently pivotable. Using these pivot points and
sped-up propellor envelopes, I can simulate any kind of
maneuvering I need.
- I use the DreadHull bitmap that came with
Lightwave 3.0 as a diffuse map to dirty up the yellow
colour of the sub.
- The lightbeam was also supplied with the version of Lightwave I have. I
won't get into how it's done here, because I didn't create it.
